Our Story
Our unique trading story takes us on a journey from
the foothills of Snowdonia, Wales to the rice paddies and steep ravines of Bali.
As a business, we have been travelling to Indonesia since 1994 with Jane taking over the buying in 2007. In this time we have formed strong links with our Artists, who have become friends, we have watched their families grow and their businesses develop.
Over the years we have got to know their neighbours, the community and there is a mutual trust between us that we are working in everyone’s best interests.

Our Natural Products
Many of our products are made from natural materials, ie wood. When buying items from us, though it may seem like common sense we still (only sometimes) have to remind people that:
Each of our wood items will be completely hand made, or hand finished and therefore is unlikely to be the same as the one next to it on the shelf. Variations will include, size, wood type, colour and grain.
When buying online please remember the one sent will not be the one in the photo. We go to great lengths to ensure that when buying a set; and or multiple items that each item is as similar as possible but products will not be identical due to these natural variations. Whilst we think this is a great way of giving you a unique gift, please be aware of this whilst purchasing because we'd hate for you to be disappointed.

Trading Fairly
Here at Beddgelert Woodcraft, we pride ourselves on our fair trade credentials, yet the Indonesian craftspeople we work with are often just family groups or cooperatives and too small to meet the criteria required to receive the stamp of approval from the Fair Trade organisation so we personally ensure that our buying is done ethically.
You may wonder how we do this…

Environmental Considerations
The environment in which we live and work within is very important to us and in all aspects of our business, we are continually working to minimise our environmental impact.
In our shop in Beddgelert we continue to work towards plastic-free (we are almost there!) all our packaging is reused, recycled or recyclable! The awareness of our environmental impact is a belief also held by our partners overseas.
Most of our colleagues in Indonesia live by a strict Hindu faith, they believe the universe to be a divine creation and all people should use the world unselfishly to maintain the natural balance.
We work with them to encourage the use of sustainable and recycled materials and help to educate the effect that their actions can have on the wider world.

Beddgelert
We are very proud to be located in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales, in the small picturesque village of Beddgelert. A village steeped in Welsh legend, if you have had the pleasure of visiting you will have undoubtedly heard the sad story of the faithful hound Gelert, if not you may want to look this up once you know the story you will understand how we inherited the nickname Dead Dog City! But don’t let that put you off!
There’s also the Dragon’s to contend with, situated just outside the village is the National Trust medieval site of Dinas Emrys! Another legend to look up!
There's a long tradition of hospitality in these parts, after all, Beddgelert has been welcoming visitors for hundreds of years, we boast a full range of amenities, which include quality hotels, great guest houses, B&B's and self-catering accommodation, campsites, hostels, bunkhouses, shops and numerous other attractions.
For further information on staying in the village please see the Beddgelert Tourism Association's website, with comprehensive details of the hotels, self-catering, bed and breakfast, camping, shops and much more.
